PGDB to now publish your business details online.
« on: June 08, 2012, 05:53:02 PM »
Changes to PGDB's online public register

The public register on the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB)'s website is being altered to make the contact details of registered tradespeople and provisional licence holders available to the public.

This change will be made on Monday 25 June.

The public details will include your:
•   Postal address (to be renamed public address)
•   Phone number
•   Mobile number
•   Email address (if any).
The 'physical address' field will be renamed 'private address' and should contain the address you wish the PGDB to use when corresponding with you.

A new mandatory field 'preferred contact information' will be added to the register beneath the public address field. This is where you should enter your business phone number and/or website address for public access.

The register will also contain information about any licence conditions, suspension, cancellation or disciplinary action taken in the last three years.

If you object to having your contact details made public for any reason, there will be an online option to apply to the Registrar for them to be withheld.

The PGDB encourages you to log in to the register and check your address details are correct before the information is made public on 25 June.

I wonder why this was thought to be necessary for plumbers/g/d when the more recent LBP register was not required by law to have this information. I'm sure some of the young guys might get a date but other than that (joking) why should employees have their details plastered around when it is the employer who must take responsibility for their work? The public cannot stalk their Dr's, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, builders and architects but harassing plumbers will become the new pass time for many. All of these occupations have registers yet only ours will have our private details for the world to see. At the very least we will be bombarded by advertising.

What about the results of confidential disciplinary actions? Will they still be confidential or will they be available for all and sundry to read and make poor judgements due to lack of facts.

I've changed my contact number to 021021021021, street address / mailing address is now my workplace address.

I agree with your above comments wombles, I just cannot for the life of me see their leverage/reasoning on this one. Once again they are exercising their right under the PGD Act 06 to regulate industry and practitioners how they see fit this being the latest example but a smaller one, whats in the best interests for practitioners simply is not, nor has never been on their agenda. We all know capitalism sure is though. It may not always have been the case but the PGDB love to make money. The easiest way being, run the organisation to their own tune, pay themselves lavishly, use lawyers to eliminate any localised/industry threat to themselves and then when there is no longer enough money coming in to cover the organisations costs......time for another fees increase. ( Oh Whoops I meant "Fees Review" ) Silly me....

Sucks for guys that work from home addresses, they cant provide a work address as the home is the office. Get a P.O Box perhaps ? Or just carry on and forget about it? Chances are few in the public will realise the information is actually available. If you search a NZ limited liability company on the nz companies register you can look up  details for a director/s or share holder/s private residence anyway. Maybe its just a sign of the times?  Im not that wrapped about it at all but at the end of the day things are happening and changing all the time, just have to get on with life and work I suppose.

In my eyes it is my human right to have a private life and i will never agree to anyone to publicly listing my private address and details.

The only people that need my private details are the pgdb incase they take action aghinst me...i am not happy as i see it as my human right to be allowed to lead a private life when work time has finished!

the only way to get around people splashing your personal details around a public domain(which puts you at more risk of foul play by those that would wish to do harm with and to your name) is to operate out of a pobox or to give a false address.

Has anyone written to them and asked why they are doing this? If so did you get a written response back?

They are entitled to under the Act.  The Federation have written to them - see Friday's newsletter this week to ready what the PGDF said, but don't hold your breath for a reply from the PGDB.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet
