The Budget
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:33:39 PM »
Well guys there are a few of us on here from pretty different walks of life in so far as our personal and family situation goes.  How does the budget affect you.  I don't have any kids at home anymore and working for families is not an issue - but I have staff who it will affect.  The increase in Kiwi Saver is of concern to me - costs are tight and unless the economy picks up this is going to hit those of us that employe staff.  In addition some of my staff who will be hit by the working for families and then have to contribute another 1% to Kiwi saver will have a double whammy.  I'm not sure where Bill English gets his impending wage increase idea from.  If you are locked into a fixed price contract for 12 or 24 months (which often contracting companies are) then there isn't the wiggle room for wages increases.  At the same time I appreciate people's costs at home have increased.  I was looking for the bit where they said they would open blast mines and we would start selling some of NZ's mineral wealth.  I wish the government had big enough balls to take a decision like this.  I know the Greenies wouldn't support it - but times are tough and it's time to get out the family silver and sell some of it off.  Interested to hear everyone's thoughts about how it will affect them.

Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet
