Plumbing Upskilling Credits
« on: February 03, 2011, 05:58:19 PM »
I'm just interested how many plumbers out there have started to get their upskilling points ahead of the 1 April 2012 deadline?  What is the quality of the courses and are there many of them?   Feedback appreciated.

I have started mine - it is an online one done by a local company (yeh it was on the list) - Backflow Devices - something I should have done a while ago. It is about $100 and you pay when you pass - I have downloaded all the study material but haven't had the time to look at it too hard. From memory its worth 6 or so credits - and I liked it cos you didnt have to go to some training institute for a whole day - study in your own time.

The quality of the stuff seemed to be ok although it seemed a little over the top and had a lot of overseas (Aus/US) material - hmmm

Will post some more info when I find the folder :)

Yes it might be a good idea to hold back on rushing to get plumbing upskilling points in case the whole system disappears and a new one is started.  As I understand it gasfitters will still be required to do their points for this year as the Gazette Notices are still valid on 1 April 2011, but after that who knows.  Plus we still have to pay the 266 dollars disciplinary levy but there may be an opportunity to ask for a partial refund once the Parliamentary Process is over. Every practitioner needs to read the report from the Regulation Review Authority - it is a watershed moment in our history and could redefine the PGDB's role in this industry.  Well done to all of those involved.

hi guys/jax, yes as you say hold back on that points training,it may send a message if no one is doing it. The way i read it is that if parliment has not done anything in a couple of weeks the complaints will be upheld and the boards rulings will be dissalowed, so maybe no need to be paying for courses or disciplinary levy. I see that the report from the review committee has only been downloaded 6 times, a bit dissapointing as i think everyone of us should read it, it shows that you have got an avenue to get justice from being bullied. I believe that Wal is defending one of our group against action from the board this week so we should look forward to a good result from that and full points again to Wal for his commitment. I am including that report again just incase it was missed on previous post, cheers

Hi Robbo - no we definitely need to pay the disciplinary levy and get the gasfitting points for 1 April.  Parliament are going to debate on 16 May so all notices are valid up until that point and then will depend on the outcome.  People who don't pay or get their points will do so at their peril.  However the plumbing points for 1 April 2012 are in question dependent on the Parliament's decision.  In the meantime I would urge all reader's of this forum to read the full report and then contact their MP to put pressure on them to vote for disallowance of the regulations.

hi jax,  this is on Wals last issue,If no action is taken on the motion within 21 sitting days (e.g. the notice isn't withdrawn, or a vote isn't held on the motion), the regulations are automatically disallowed.
So it’s still a waiting game to find out what the Government will do but at least our voices were heard, cheers
