Post your experiences with graphite! Do you use it or are you using other products? Would you like something to replace graphite with?

LOL!!! Well, I guess it has to be good for something...

I have tried the fermit, its brilliant! FINALY no hand scrubbing for hours! :)
-
Great! As others are starting to use it, we are getting repeat orders from the merchants now! It's apparently good as a tap lube as well.
Check the website www.viscotex.co.nz (http://www.viscotex.co.nz)

Hi, I haven’t used graphite for years and would never use it now I don`t know why plumbers use it, it may be beneficial on heating /steam pipes but I’m not sure how it would benefit plumbing. There is nothing worse than seeing a newly completed bathroom with black marks on the walls, in cupboards etc, once it is on your hands it seems to get everywhere. I normally just use hemp nothing else is needed but I have used: Vaseline/water/a smear of rtv anything will give a bit of lubrication to make jointing easier, I once worked for a fire sprinkler outfit where we used a bar of soap after hemping the cut thread on the threading machine while still going, don`t know if they still do that but it was effective.

i use it but i try not to when fitting off, its ok behind a wall but theres nothing worse than seeing in in a new bathroom!
-
i hate the stuff but if you dont use it you risk burning the hemp when fitting off and also i have not used it sometimes and have blown drass fitting apart due to the scratched fitting pulling too much hemp into the fitting at one time so now i always use graphite and have not had the same problem since...last week we got some of that fermit stuff and will be trying it when the graphite runs out...theres nothing worse than trying to scrub graphite off surfaces and if it gets into the grout GAME OVER! lol

Fermit is really beginning to get around now and more and more plumbers are using it. Franklin's are becoming one of our biggest customers and making frequent repeat orders now.
Use it for tap lube and tool lube too! It's proving economical, clean to use and store. I reckon it will become industry standard soon!

Used the Fermit product back in Germany over 15 years ago. Its all they use over there. Couldn't believe we actually use the black crap over here! Its utter shit! Fermit is bloody excellent. Looks like toothpaste, and wont ruin the carpets etc...

Hi there,
You have to check what sort of Fermit you are using. Neo Fermit is food grade and you can actually eat it, it does not harm you, whereas i would not dare eating the graphite s..t. and that's the stuff you use for drinking water. You are working in the food industry and you guys are still poising people!!!!!! This is not a joke you have to think really seriously about it what you do.
cheers
Fidl.

Quite right! It is safe to use, environmentally safe and versatile, as I said tap and tool lube as well. Economical and clean, convenient in the tube and proving very popular with everyone using it now! Hassle your local merchant to stock it for you if they don't already!

yes ok i agree graphite in a white bathroom is terrible, care indeed on white matt textured surfaces! I always clean up with a clean rag starting off with the shiny shiny chrome tapware (finger marks ) a real visual focal point for the clients eagle eye..... and the rest after. Good housekeeping aye.
Soo whats this fermit cost? any problems like drying out and becoming unusable?
Any one use gas tape to fit off?
Exam results due on 10 august :o

Update!
I have bought back the company after having to give it up following a serious car accident back in May 2010. Please see my other thread, "Come and get it!" for details.

Update for everyone.
neo-Fermit is rapidly becoming the industry standard throughout NZ and as one merchant said to me recently, "Once a plumber tries it, he won't use anything else!"
Sales have tripled and more and more uses are being found for it. Tap lube, lubing tools and equipment, anywhere a clean, safe lubricant is needed, really. Now available in 450g and 800g tins as well!
We are now bringing in more products from Fermit, including the Loctite equivalent - Thread Lock, Solar Fermit, monofilament pipe thread sealer in 175m rolls, plastic putty and more!
Ask your local merchant for them!
