Fellow Practitioner Issue 274 Dated 2 October 2015
« on: October 02, 2015, 06:18:49 AM »
An advertisement appeared on one of the job sites last week and just shows what people think of our industry. They expect to be able to do whatever work they want, supply the materials and then want us to put in the pipe work and take responsibility forever and a day. That just shows how ridiculous the situation has become! As an industry we need to treat ourselves with pride and distinction and not crawl around picking up the scraps because others want a cheap deal.

When you bury you head in the sand and say nothing, waiting for others to make change you become nothing more than a bicycle stand. The tradespeople in the Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying industries need to decide if they want change or more conflict.

There was a very interesting segment on Seven Sharp on Thursday 24 September 2015, regarding Builders. They had the Government on there saying products and the country have moved on since the leaking building saga. This appeared to be a bit of "we cocked up with the legislation so let's forget about that and get on to something different." One of the facts discussed came from a 2006 report which stated that less than 50% of builders were trade qualified.

Well done the Federation and its executive committee. All those years of work are starting to show results. Come on guys lets get behind them and support the consultation as a few minutes is nothing compared to the hours they put in.

Hey I just can't believe the running costs for the Federation for a year. $5,765.00  ($15.79 per day) compared to the PGDB $9,412.47 per day. Well done Federation, someone knows how to budget.

We need to get our replies in to the consultation before the 16th of October I think.  Thanks Wal and the Federation for putting down some thoughts that we can use.  Much appreciated.  I for one like this new idea a lot - it might cost - but then so are the "free" courses - anyone who thinks the cost won't be included in the product price is mad.  This sort of upskilling looks like it might genuinely provide some decent information.

I think the point made about getting in something is really important.  We all moan, but when it comes to standing up and being counted we need to make sure we have a voice and it's heard.  Again, thanks Wal and your team.
