Fellow Practitioner Issue 266 Dated 7 August 2015
« on: August 07, 2015, 06:51:37 AM »
It would seem democracy has gone and has been replaced with a dictatorship as the Minister of Building and Housing, Dr Nick Smith has made three new appointments to the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.  Doesn't the industry get an opportunity?

Remember recently there was media coverage about prisoners refurbishing houses in Christchurch - well the Federation had concerns about the legality of inmates doing plumbing and electrical work so we asked some questions and here's an answer we got.

Earlier this year the Board held an initial consultation to hear your ideas on the Fees and Levy. The Board has considered that feedback and has developed a proposal. We tell you the key points

Whats the industry have to do to get representation?

Has anyone asked if you have to be a National Party member to get on the Board because maybe that's what we have to be?

Seriously this all seems very manipulated by the Government.

Its very disappointing to see the proposed fees. What about a 2 or 5 year license?  Why cant the licence period be longer? is the Board giving jobs to family members ie not wanting to sack staff so keeping licenses as is.  I just dont get it.  Mrs Womble.

Apparently it is the overheads that mean there is no savings in 2-5 years licensing. The Overheads apparently won't change.  I say cut the overheads. Mover to a cheaper location would be a good start. Stop providing lunch for Board members and visitors.
