Fellow Practitioner Issue 232 Dated 14 November 2014
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:44:27 AM »
There comes a point in time when you get sick of excuses. When you see politicians appointed to positions where they should be doing good, walking away from their responsibilities and hanging the public out to dry. Well we are getting very sick and tired of it. It is time to up the pressure and play by our rules and not put up with any more incompetence from the Government and those they appoint.

We believe a simple meeting of stakeholders with negotiation and compromise would correct most of the issues.  We will not tolerate any more of this dictatorship.

Interesting newsletter - when I think back to how the landscaped looked before the Federation came into being it makes me shudder.  There was that period after the Board changed from being helpful and working with industry - and where Master Plumbers seemed to agree with everything they did - that the ordinary guy, the employee, the apprentice had no voice.  Once it didn't matter because the Board treated everyone pretty fairly, and with transparency, but then that changed and it did matter.  The Federation have forever changed the landscape of our industries because they have shown that the little guy can triumph, that justice is worth fighting for.  There are still changes worth fighting for, and the Board raking in such a surplus as they have while licence fees have not diminished is one of them.  If getting together with Master Plumbers means that numbers are such that the Board must take notice then this will benefit everyone.

I genuinely hope that all parties see a benefit in sitting around the table - for so long we have all sat in our respective trenches firing bullets at each other - some landed, some didn't.  Now perhaps we can try and come out from behind the trenches and sit facing each other at the table.  Nothing ventured nothing gained.  At least they can't say we didn't try.  Good on the Federation for suggesting it - well done!  Keep everyone posted as to how it pans out.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

Well said Jaxcat.

The Government forgets tradespeople aren't dumb arses that can't do anything else. We are some of the most skilled and educated people around. Just because we prefer to work with our hands doesn't mean to say we are going to roll over and accept their sh_t.

The price of higher education and skill levels is that those setting competency levels also have to be on their game and be above reproach. The more educated and skilled we are the more we expect from the regulators.
