Fellow Practitioner Issue 210 Dated 13 June 2014
« on: June 13, 2014, 05:24:03 AM »
Waking up every day to face more battles with the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board does nothing for productivity of the individuals or the industry. The Government set a target of increasing productivity by 20% and we don't know if that's been achieved or not, however what we do know is that the Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying Industry are the meat in the sandwich.

Pay no fees to the PGDB - told to go to WINZ is it fair?

Who do we go to with complaints about the Board?

Letters to the editor get heated.

I have a very simple question.

What has the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board done to protect the Public since the Amendment Bill last year? In fact what has the Board done differently in the last 5 years that has been legal to protect the Public?

It seems to me nothing is improving and all the Board ever does is change administrative processes to make themselves look busy.

hi guys, (So what options do practitioners have for laying complaints now? The Regulations Review Committee isn’t interested and the last complaint submitted over twelve months ago still hasn’t been dealt with (the person who said the wheels of government move slowly wasn’t kidding!!). The PGD Board doesn’t accept complaints of a general nature but there are always the Courts where you need to pay for a lawyer and then via your fees you will pay to fight your own complaint - so that’s not really an option unless you have a bottomless wallet. You could go to the Ombudsman but the last complaint laid with them is nearly twelve months old. The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment have a hand’s off stance. Complaints to the Prime Minister get handed on to the Minister of Building and Construction for a standard “who cares” answer)
...
so what is left? sabotage and violence! that seems to be the choice that is happening around the world when people have had enough,, so does it need to come to this to get the attention of the govt, cheers

Yep Robbo the worlds history is packed with examples of issues that have got out of hand when democracy was replaced with dictatorship but still called democracy. When leaders ignored the people - not that I'm saying we have any leaders in our Board, in fact it's not our Board its the Governments paid for by us.

When it comes to our industry the Government doesn't care as they have the Board to blame or they can blame the malcontents.  When something does happen they will say "wow why did that happen, why have we lost a thousand tradespeople in five years, why don't people like us"

The Board and the Government are like dumb and dumber.

Hi guys the one sure way to get them to take notice is economics. As the Federation started we need to be withholding our money until we get results and if the board isn't enough then lets start hitting the bottom line of the gross domestic product. Prime example was the truckies over there road user dispute a couple of years ago with there slow moving convoy into wellington the govt. caved very quickly because it caused havoc and the country lost X amount of money in lost productivity.

Now as a protest that would make the govt. and the wider community take notice of our concerns and probably get some fairly quick action.
Unless the moral improves the floggings will continue

Yep Aboutgas, hitting them in the pocket is the best way but not the Board as the Government don't fund them so they don't care.

Yes it may be a matter of waiting for the right opportunity to protest on a large scale but getting participation in such action will be an issue as a lot of practitioners are complacent.
