a) Using your knowledge of NZS 3604 state THREE requirements that must be met when
forming an opening in foundation walls.

b) Where a notch or hole size exceeds the 25 mm dimensions in the timber top plate,
the plate must be strengthened. Sketch a method to strengthen the plate as described
in NZS 3604 Timber Framed Buildings.

a) No opening occurs beneath the end support of a bearer.
    The footing is continuous beneath all opening.
    Any opening exceeding 600mm wide is no closer than 600 mm to any wallend or corner.
    Any opening exceeding 300 mm in any direction is provided with a trimming bar on every side of the opening.
    Any opening for drainage or soil pipes shall be 75mm in each dimension greater than the outside diameter of the pipe, sealed with a flexible sealer to prevent entry of water.
