sitting nov certifying .......aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrghhhhh
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:29:18 PM »
hi plumbers, i am sitting certifying in a couple of weeks, so of course i am studying hard, going through old exams and finding a few curly questions, for instance november 2009 question 7 a).

they give you most of the details, but in the answer it states 24 x (flow rate of each fixture)  does anyone know where this magical 24 number comes from, as i cant seem to work it into any of the equation.

i am sure i will have plenty more questions to ask over the next few weeks,so please lend a hand if you can

cheers pugsy ;D

hi pugsy, you may need to provide the whole question to get the right answer, when they talk about fixture units or discharge units, that is a given number for each fixture that you use to calculate your total discharge units to size your soil/ waste pipes ;)

hi just to clarify,it is in regards to flow rate not du`s or fu`s. for example the flow rate of a single shower is 0.01lps so in the total column they answer (24 x 0.01 = 2.4lps) my question is where does the 24 part come from? is that perhaps how you factor a flow rate per second?

is 24 the number of units/showers for which to size for probable simultaneous flow?

Yes and good on you!!!   :)
