Title: Zip Water Heater
Post by: Skruff on December 20, 2011, 10:04:16 AM
Hi there

I need some advice about an old Zip water heater, you know, with a steam switch at the top, glass water-level tube on the side, and tap at the bottom. The problem I'm having is that when the tap is turned on, the valve is a bit sticky. If you jiggle it around a bit, usually it will free up and the water will flow.

What I would like to know is, is it possible to get the tap valve out, so that I can give it a clean, and hopefully solve the sticking problem?

Cheers

Steve

Cool, thanks Robbo.

I have tried before, but it wasn't obvious to me. I removed the handle, but can't remember if there was no obvious "threaded bit" to unscrew, or whether it was difficult to reach with the tools I have available. Does that make sense? If the latter, any suggestions how to get to it, when it's kind of inside the housing of the Zip, with the opening only about 50 mm diameter?

Cheers

Hi Skruff, you need a tube spanner, like an element spanner but smaller. 15mm I think.

You better go with the local plumber  because self cleaning might get problematic because opening is easy but fitting it return is not that easy.
