Title: Christmas is coming - but now is not the time to forget what we are fighting for

Christmas is coming, the sun is shining (mostly anyway) and we are starting to slip into "holiday" mode.  Now is not the time to "switch off" to what is happening in our industry though.  We need to remain vigilant and ready to stand up for what we believe in.  The PGDB are about to make two very important decisions next week - i.e. the shape of CPD and the fees for next licensing year.  These both come up for decisions at their next Board meeting which is on the 5th and 6th of December.  Likely the decision will be announced in the week or two after the Board meeting - you know - right before we all knock off for our holidays.  Absolutely brilliant political strategy on their part becasue we will all be heading off in different directions, looking to wind down and take it easy for a week or two - and mostly likely not wanting to think about anything plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying related.  Then we all have to re-group and come back to work and what do you know it's almost the end of January.  The Gazette notices will be drafted and before we know it - we'll have things dished up to us that we may not agree with or like.  If you do one think these holidays, remember to keep in touch with what is happening and perhaps with that free time you might even be able to put pen to paper to the Board, the Minister, the ITO, or anyone else you can think of and let them know what your opinion is.

Of course, there is a slim chance the Board will make some good decisions re upskilling and levies - in which case crack open the beers, hit the deck chair and remember to put on the sun screen!

That's right Jaxcat

Although things don't appear to be happening or being achieved everyone needs to think where we would be if we weren't standing up for ourselves.  There is no doubt the industry is starting to wake up and defend its self and taking steps to ensure we are not bullied any more.

You can't turn around 10 years of dictatorship overnight but the pressure must be kept on the Board to make change and in saying that it is not only the Board but other organisation's such as the ITO.

We know we shouldn't have to do all this fighting but we do.  Keep it up
