Title: Inconsistent water temps between kitchen and bathroom
Post by: hawkz25 on July 09, 2011, 07:12:15 PM
Hi there, first time poster.

I have some funky stuff going on at home at the moment. I noticed some gurgling deep in the hotwater cylinder. I have the fire on (wetback) so thought maybe this was the water heating up. I usually hear this sound in the firebox, not the cylinder. I had a shower and the water seemed fine for about 10 mintues, but then the water goes cold with no noticeble change in pressure.

I get out and check the hot water tap in the kitchen and the water is burning to the touch (probably over 55 - wetback?). I go back in to bathroom and test the temperature on the basin tap and it's warm but not burning (ran it for 30+seconds to be sure). The shower on full hot is also not burning to the touch like the kitchen water. Went back to check kitchen in case it was "buffered" hot water but no, still hot. There's also sediment/stuff floating in the water. This leads me to believe the gurgling sound is down the bottom of the cylinder - somewhere - stirring things up. I don't recall hearing this gurgling sound until today, the HWC is usually relatively quiet - you can hear usual heating sounds if you put your ear close.

Any thoughts? Should I run for the hills before she blows?

The difference in temps between kitchen and bathroom has me stumped. The house isn't big...

thanks

firstly check for tempering valve between hwc and fixtures

sounds like you may have TV between HWC and fixtures other than kitchen and laundry - is laundry temp the same as kitchen temp?

it isnt required that there is TV between HWC and kitchen/laundry - if there is TV present it may only temper hot water to fixtures for personal hygiene in which case it maybe beyond its expiry date OR may not be suitable for uncontrolled heat source - ie: wetback (hi temp)

check it out - let us know
