Why was the builder tapping the connection ? mains pressure gas? more to this story than has been reported me thinks

Interesting.. Just today I attended a hob from same manufacturer.New customer fitted himself 2 weeks ago (first oops) then called us because bad gas smell when running one burner in particular. After making good non compliant installation, stripped unit and found union between burner tube and bowl cross threaded and leaking like a seive. How this got through quality control I dont know. Retail supplier promised me return call from manufacturer this afternoon: still waiting
