In their latest brief, they welcome John Simmiss as a new board member.

Why do they proudly proclaim him being a certifying Gasfitter, when he has NEVER been one. And why does he advertise in the yellow pages as being a gasfitter - when he is not one?????

Is it possible that his staff have deserted him also?

Has he failed in maintaining the rights to Enviroflow in Hawkes Bay??

Maybe when my business goes tits up and I have nothing left to live for - I'll join the PGDB also :-)

I hope John brings something useful to the industry, some of his ex apprentices might disagree though.

hi guys, another board member with connections to the Master plumbers...
Mr Simmiss is a certifying plumber and drainlayer and demonstrates a strong understanding of governance and the responsibilities of the Board. He has completed the Institute of Directors five day training course.

Mr Simmiss is a current Board member of the Plumbers, Gasfitters, Drainlayers and Roofing Industry Training Organisation (PGDR ITO). He recently stepped down as Chair of the PGDR ITO. He was the inaugural President of Master Plumbers.

Mr Simmiss brings valuable connections to the Board, through his role as the New Zealand representative on the World Plumbing Council.

Guys
If we are going to criticise then we need to make sure we get it right.  The Board info break doesn't proclaim him to be a Certifying Gasfitter at all - it introduces him as Certifying Plumber and Certifying Drainlayer and if you check the public register he is current with both of those licences.

As to his standing on the ITO I'm not sure, but I do not think he is the World Plumbing Council rep from NZ either.  When he was on the Master Plumber's Board I believe he was, but he has not been a member of that Board for a few years.  I believe they probably have another representative.  He may attend in his capacity as a representative of the ITO - but I honestly don't know.  One thing I do know 100% is that the PGDB don't come to Master Plumbers and ask for them to put up people for the PGDB - the fact that some of the people who put themselves forward are Master Plumbers is incidential - it could be that they are just active participants in the industry.  I have criticised the PGDB (as an entity) on this forum, and will continue to do so when warranted, but as for individuals - I do respect people who volunteer this time in this industry in any capacity.  I know that PGDB members get paid to be on that Board, and I would expect that given time they have to take out of their own businesses to fulfil their obligations.  I am all for taking a crack at the "entity" but not individual's.  Remember no one person on that Board will ever get their own way, all of them have to vote and the majority rule.

If any practitioner is advertising themselves as something they are not then lay a complaint, I know the PGDB are following up on companies who advertise they do a trade that they are not licensed to and they need to prove then they have a contact with a company who does deliver that.

Ooops I retract that - they do say certifying gasfitter when you click on the link in kiwi chris's article, but if you go www.pgdb.co.nz (http://www.pgdb.co.nz) and then click on the link there that says Certifying Plumber and Certifying Drainlayer.  Maybe they corrected it after you looked!
