hi guys, this should not suprise anyone who has been in the trade for more than a few years. There has not been a perfect piping system yet, we have had: lead/galv/copper/p.v.c/poly, all of which have been superceeded because they failed, we now have dux secura the latest poly system it is very good but will no doubt fail at some time in the future, anyway it is good for us plumbers. As for the ministers "ignorance" well...,cheers

No they didn't Robbo. If they did the insurance companies wouldn't insure them. They do. But not Dux Quest.

Well for my two cents worth the next big failure we'll see in this industry is the  piping systems used for gas and water (not copper! and I'll shy away from using any particular brand names) that have not been wrapped properly and have been exposed to UV despite manufacturers of all types stating that it should not be in sunlight.  We see it everywhere we go, and although we use it under houses, we always come up in copper.  It is everywhere.  I believe there are already failures starting to show.

The Dux Quest saga has resulted in quite a few phone calls over the last couple of days.  Dux should have appeared on TV and stated the changes in the company since then - not showing has done them a disservice - more than one customer has asked if their Dux toilet and cistern is crap as well.  Silence hasn't done them any favours.

I agree Jaxcat, See to many PP gas pipes sticking out of walls exposed to UV. I might sound a bit old school but I reckon anything outside the building envelope and exposed to UV should be copper. Sleeves designed for PP externally are usually to expensive and difficult to work with so ill stick to what works best. Also be careful what PP gas pipe you put in the ground or concrete as it turns out most manufactures will not not warranty the pipe if the recommended pipe conduit is not used. Some wont even warranty with conduit.

"Dux Quest" Yes many inquiries like Jaxcat. Keep up the good PR TVNZ  ;D ! I think now I must be proactive in explaining to people that "dux" is not "dux quest" confusing don't you think?

Surely not, Gasfitters are self certifying and therefore maintain the highest standards don't they........

Hi Guys shouldnt we be looking at the source of the problem, why are they failing ; surely in the majority of failures here they are due to water quality to acidic or too much scale . And as for the initial question regarding the minister you dont expect any different do you his sudden loss of memory or is it the onset of altzeimers . What ever question you ever ask any politician you never get a straight answer, they call them honourable he is a disgrace just like the rest only lining their own pockets at the plumbers expense remember them at the next election

The source of the problem is the product. Its been well known for years and Dux have never hid from that.
