were sort of busy at the moment a bit on and off as plumber said...but its better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick!...my boss last weekend had dinner with some friends and his friend whos quite high up in the banking world said that things were starting to move again and we should see it pick up in a while once the big dollars start to filter down...Two of our regular builders have gone flat and are scratching around for anything at the moment...just hope his banker friend is right...

Best describe it as steady - compared to six months ago I think it has picked up - but on the commercial front there are some stupid prices going in at the moment - largely because I believe plumbers who did domestic work are having a crack at the small commercial stuff and not allowing for manuals, as builts, submissions etc - they will find out that these things cost at the end of the day. Gasfitting work is starting to pick up as the cold weather bites in.  Bathrooms and kitchens are almost non-existent.  Maintenance work picking up - but people have left things a long time and so costs are higher than if they had gotten preventative maintenance done earlier.  Have managed to keep all our staff but as things pick up I'm expecting to lose some of our younger guys who have recently qualified as they head off to do their OE.  People moving in to area from Chch looking for work - that's an interesting concept as everyone thinks Chch will be flat out - but sounds like work could be scarce there within about 3 months and then bereft for 6 - 18 months as plans and infrasctructure is built up.
