Subject: GAS FLUE TESTING
From: Jim from Wanaka on: October 30, 2008, 08:57:39 PM

Hello,
Hope someone out there can assist. I am studying for my craftsman gas exam next month and have a question about relative acceptable levels of gasses to be expected in a gas fired appliance which has correct combustion.

Is there any acceptable level of carbon monoxide and if so what is it?

If you know can you please tell me where you found your answer.

Thanks,

Jim from Wanaka

hi, may be a to little to late but heres all i could find in my old notes,
oxygen3-4 %
carbon dioxide as close to 12% as achieveable
and
carbon monoxide must be less than 0.02 of carbon dioxide
i.e 0.02co
         1 co2
or  one part co2 to .02 parts co.
hope this helps.

I agree with your answer as to the percentages but this only applies to Domestic and small Commercial Appliances, Boilers with gun burners etc are quite different.

there was a question regarding NZS 5258, this code is for gas distribution and not for gas installations like we deal with.  NZS 5261 is the gas fitters "bible" and it is a "must have" if you are installing gas appliances.
