Title: Examinations This Weekend
Post by: Jaxcat on November 10, 2010, 10:58:41 AM
Best of luck to all those apprentices who are going to sit their examinations this weekend.  Just know that you have done your best, studied hard and that you will be rewarded with success.  You are not in the room alone, all those who have helped to train and teach you sit alongside you.  Remember to read the questions properly before you answer.  There are a series of multi choice questions this year and I believe you are also provided  with copies of the standards that are aplicable to your exam.  Remember to reward yourselves with a beer once you have finished (unless you have another exam the following week, and then hold off until after that one!)   :)

You aren't alone in feeling nervous Thunderhead.  I have five apprentices all sitting this weekend and you could cut the air with a knife around this place at the moment.  I am looking forward to Monday when it will all be over.  I don't have anyone sitting gas this time around - all plumbing.  I believe that the PGDB have looked seriously at the exams and hopefully the questions will be common sense and cover off the competencies.  I'm sure you'll do well!!
Remember it's not only the apprentices sitting who are nervous, all the craftsmen/certifiers who work with you are pretty nervous too!!

You are not wrong there!!!  That makes me very nervous - actually if they've done the work they deserve the pay rise - and hopefully they will work that bit harder too to offset it.   Mind you it is getting very hard out there - this recession is biting in.  I've heard of at least three firms in the last month laying off guys - not a pleasant thing to have to do on either side of the fence.

yea i know what you mean for the last 9 months ive agreed with my employer to drop a days pay when we arnt busy and finish early...im the one that initiated it...cus i dont feel right asking for money when i have done no work...to me this is fair...being only a two man band i know he does not have much stored in the slush fund based on the amount of work we have done this year...but we have seemed to hit our christmas rush at the moment which is good...i want to give him one more year of cheep labour BUT after that i will be going labour only...or looking for a firm that can give me close to what i want...being 37 i take what i do serriously...Cheers for the good wishes jax hope ALL of your trainees PASS...lol  :P...i will be posting after the exam as to how it was structured...i have looked at the june exam this year and found it to be a good all round exam so im hoping sat will be similar.
