I dont quite understand what this exam is for........ do you need this before you can open your own business?
am i able to sign gas certificates if I dont get this exam but I'm a craftsman gasfitter?
Little bit confused here and my boss doesnt know what its for either!

You dont need it to own your own business, you dont even have to be a plumber to own the business. But to be a 'certifying" (craftsman) gasfitter u have to pass the common paper. I agree with the common paper its a good idea as so many tradesman have no idea about business.

Has anyone else out there got views on this common paper?
I'm studying at the moment for it as a gasfitter and going through past papers there are specific technical questions on plumbing (i'm a plumber too but that's irrelevent). Can't see how they can get away with asking these questions when they don't come under your scope of work.
I thought it was supposed to be a business paper but it seems the later papers especially cover so much that they can't want people to pass.
Having shown some of the questions to long time craftsman here they've just had a look of disbelief that we are being asked certain things that they have no knowledge of.
