What happens when you are a man down, well you carry on as if nothing has happened, that is unless you are the Plumbing Gasfitting and Drainlaying Industry Training Organisation.

Mention strategic planning and people's eyes glaze over and excuses for non attendance come out of the woodwork, that is unless you are from the Federation.  Two Federation members present to the PGD Board our vision for the future.

The Federation has volunteered to lead a review of the Paul Gee case and has started preliminary work to achieve this. A full review of the case will be written with the information available. It is not known if the PGD Board will participate or not but all indications are they believe the issue has run its course. Paul and his family believe otherwise.

Hi guys, from the fellow practitioner today.(Yes the Skills Organisation have struck again - a vital meeting regarding the:
 PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT – NZ CERTIFICATES IN PLUMBING, GASFITTING, AND DRAINLAYING (Levels 3 AND 4)
 was postponed due to a staff member being required for Jury Duty
)
The staff member could have been excused the Jury Duty sighting and detailing the more important work that they would be doing, other persons would be found to do the jury work, cheers

In fairness Robbo I understand SKILLS did try to get the person excused and it was refused.   I think the point is that in such a huge organisation there must be more than one person that can lead this discussion - that or we are all in the shit if this person leaves....

I think there is a growing dissatisfaction amongst the trades with the delivery of apprenticeship training (or lack of) at polytechs.  Those of us that employ apprentices would like to see a return to "training" in its purist form at tech, rather than straight assessment.   I have concerns about the costs of apprenticeships and wonder how much the techs get per head to run a one week block course - just how is the money being applied - both our contribution the government contribution - I suspect the huge beast that is the ITO is gobbling a lot up in administration.  I'd love to be proved wrong on this... so if you know feel free to enlighten me.

hi guys, (SKILLS did try to get the person excused and it was refused) I find that hard to believe, I have been excused from jury duty many times as I`ve never wanted to do it so have made excuses to get off it. In any case I understand that after turning up and waiting you quite possibly will not get the nod to continue so a day off, wonder if it just happened to be a Friday or Monday, cheers
