Title: HJ Coopers Hot water cylinders 20 year warranty warning
Post by: Plumber on August 23, 2013, 02:33:56 PM
It's always about the fine print.

The 20 year warranty has always been the sales trump until we got caught out on one of HJ Coopers warranties with a client. Be careful what you promise your client as it could be very different to what the warranty exclusions say. Basically you must have your cylinder serviced yearly to take advantage of the 20 year warranty (assuming no other exclusion applies).

I did not know this until I got the attached warranty exclusion document. Also interesting is the fact that they exclude the warranty from "excessive heat". Before HJ coopers was sold to Rinnai they were promoting them as solar and wetback cylinders when they are not even suitable for wetback. I do wonder how Rinnai see's the whole thing now. Interesting read.
