Title: gas water heater installation position?
Post by: roberto on July 01, 2013, 09:49:39 PM
if you had the room in your ceiling would you install the gas unit in the ceiling with a flue(to reduce the risk of it freezing) or have it on the outside wall?

If you were my client and the existing HWC is in the roof I would probably recommend putting the new gas unit there as well, mainly to keep the existing hot water layout. Sometimes when you relocate your up to all sorts of surprises. I guess if its your place you deal to it. Downturn of roof space is that the unit is more $$$ and not easy access to trouble shoot or service. Depending on your unit not to sure about freezing, I live in Auckland so never had an issue, maybe other guys further south might know.

yes have had one in lake hayes estate exchanger blew out, this was primarily due to fact house was shut down with no power etc for frost protection, even after being warned about it

never had any probs on live houses though - I am in Southland/Fiordland/Central Otago
