Title: plumbing world ad running on chch radio
Post by: spud on June 29, 2013, 08:39:49 AM
has anyone heard the ad plumbing world are running at the moment? They basically refer to the Campbell Live thing on plumbers last week and make fun of it. They say that "plumbing world plumbers aren't charging excessive fees" which can only mean that they think the plumbers on the Campbell live report are.
I actually found it to be quite insulting and I think I may close my plumbing world account. It was as if they were attacking a large section of plumbers who are complaining about their fees for their own commercial gain.
Not impressed!!

It was run at the top of the south island too, Spud.....

I think the Campbell live team should do a follow up story(I mean Campbell live have been mentioned in an advert to sell gear), lets see the faces of these people who thought it was a good idea to run this ad. It could be even more sinister than just trying to profit from our plight, which is pretty low, but it may have been to discredit those with the courage to use their a voice, lets see who are using their industry connections.

When you think of it, Wal, Allan and Colleen had the conviction of their beliefs to front up in person on TV......but these people never seem too, we have a faceless ad run, on the face of it, nationally, the Board wouldn't go on air, most of it seems to be done in backroom deals, illegality made legal. Perhaps it is the same crew who are being forced to show their hand.....thing is when you have got where you are by underhand dealings and bullying......what have you got left in a fair fight......when your pushed to react.

Lets have an open discussion with all these clowns in person to publicly stand by what they have done, said and advertised. Lets see who thought this ad was a good idea....lets see all the connections and relationships.....I have a feeling it may tell us quite a lot. Lets see who is responsible, whos reaping the profit from all this bullshit.

I have heard this "promotion" has quite tight "terms and conditions"....that some are finding quite hard to meet....being sold down the river by a business that profits from our hard work......lovely. Lets see Campbell live do a story on how full of shit this ad is.

and here in southland

I will not shop Plumbing World Invercargill any longer - they are effectively a mouthpiece for the Master Plumbers and Suppliers and ironically they are the ones that have the most to lose with the way their shareholding works...

They actively and knowingly support illegal (cash), unlicensed and unregistered persons as well - and have done nothing but laugh in amusement when all of this is raised - spouting that if they do not get it there then they just get it else where

well...

I can go else where as well

Complaint to to
he broadcasting authority perhaps.

I have not heard the advertisement yet.

Bottom line is about sales and i doubt that there is any political awareness requirement for those who come up with this stuff, Alienating your customers is not very smart.

Playing in the North Island as well - I think it is a pretty shitty way to do business - Plumbing World have been no friend of the Federation anyway.  They refused to let the Feds collect names and addresses at their branches when we were first starting out.  A letter was sent to the CEO of Plumbing World and Mico's - Mico's answered almost immediately and said they had no problems and some of their branch managers were absolutely outstanding in letting people know about the Federation and giving them the choice to sign up if they wanted to.  The CEO of NZPM who has now left said he would have to take it to the NZPM Board - and there it sat, and sat.  They didn't even have the decency to answer one way or the other.
This ad does not surprise me at all - and it seems to me the only way to give them the message that we don't like it is to tell them, and then take your business elsewhere.  Simple - like the Board - the answer lies in hitting them in the pockets.

This whole concept of setting an installation price does no favours for plumbers - and I find it very hard to swallow that this firm is a major business partner with Master Plumbers, when on the face of it , it stops the plumber getting a decent price for an honest day's work, and just seems to be driving prices down.  I wonder what their shareholders think?  Some of which are Federation members.  For my two cents worth I think Plumbing World suck!

hmmmm fit and proper...... ::)

Jackson Plumbing of Invercargill is currently managed by Peter Jackson. Our emphasis is on quality and excellence, which we underpin with over 60 years as members of the News Zealand Society of Master Plumbers. A company priority is the training of many apprentices to a standard of excelllence. Retaining those tradesmen has been paramount in the service we offer on a daily basis. The business covering Invercargill and the surrounding Southland area employs 12 staff, including a gasfitter, ensuring our ability to service our regular clientele. Jackson Plumbing has 130 years collective experience within our team. Directors of Jackson Plumbing serve the industry in a national capacity as Presidents of the New Zealand Society of Master Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers, the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Registration Board, New Zealand Plumbers’Merchants/Plumbing World, Pattons Refrigeration, Metrix Distribution Ltd and H2O Design. These Directorships showcase the involvement both nationally and internationally we have in the plumbing and business world.

Perhaps this is why the NZ Law Commission says this........

http://www.lawcom.govt.nz/sites/default/files/publications/2008/01/Publication_131_385_IP6_Tribunals_in_NZ.pdf

5.36 a difficulty arises here in that occupational regulatory and disciplinary bodies are
often funded by the relevant industry, which may adversely affect perceptions of
their independence. However, this funding is necessary. We suggest that it may be
acceptable for these bodies to be funded through mechanisms such as licensing fees
and industry levies provided that they are independent from industry associations
and other purely industry groups, and that other mechanisms are in place to
safeguard their independence. For example, in its recent review of the real estate
agents act 1976, the Ministry of Justice suggested that the body responsible for
licensing and disciplinary matters ought to be “independent from the industry,”
meaning that the real estate institute of New Zealand should not be able to exercise
control over it. This body would be constituted as a separate body that would be
required to report annually to Parliament. Finally, it was seen as important for
public perceptions of independence that the Minister of Justice should appoint
members, rather than the industry appointing the members.337 We note that these
recommendations arose in a context of public concern about the real estate industry.
However, we suggest that the underlying principles reflect a wider trend towards
greater independence for occupational bodies, and that the recommendations can
be considered as an example of best practice in any event.
5.37 The majority of bodies within our study which regulate and discipline
occupational groups do enjoy a degree of independence from the occupation
itself. although many are funded by industry levies and the like, they are
frequently established as Crown entities or bodies corporate, so are independent
from their industry representative body. For example, the New Zealand Teachers
Council is an autonomous Crown entity, and is funded through a government
grant and registration fees. similarly, the registration and disciplinary system
for social workers is run through the social Workers registration board, which
may impose a levy on members for the purposes of discipline under the act.338
The Chartered Professional engineers Council is a body corporate under the
oversight of the department of building and Housing, and is funded

and this too..... ;D

5.38 Independence is vital to ensure a credible and effective system of tribunals.
Independence must be real, but it is equally important that the public
perceives tribunals to be independent. Tribunals must decide cases impartially,
and have sufficient guarantees of independence to ensure that they are able to
do this, and are seen to do it. In this chapter, we have identified a number of
areas where guarantees of institutional independence could be strengthened in
order to enhance the perception of independence. These are:
· I n some tribunals appointment of members is not transparently based
on merit.
· I n some tribunals, a Minister or other appointing authority with an interest
in the outcomes of cases appoints members of the tribunal.
· S ome tribunal members do not have adequate guarantees of secure tenure
within their term of appointment.
· S ome tribunals are administered by departments whose decisions are reviewed
in the tribunal, or who appear as a party in cases before the tribunal.
· S ome occupational bodies do not appear to be sufficiently independent from
the relevant industry representative body.· S ome occupational bodies do not include lay members.

I agree now look at the quote from Mr Jacksons website and his list of "involvement"......"fit and proper".......hhhmmmmm?

Perhaps with all this going on he needs to keep one eye on the door and one eye on his watch...

Ohhh and he was on a tribunal where he was one of the panel that judged that he was impartial......just before they framed me..... ::)

Loyalty and common sense have gone and been replaced with money. People at the top of organisations want to get the best returns so they can keep their big wages. They don't care who it hurts as they will move on to the next organisation after a couple of years.

Plumbing World need to be very careful as their backbone "Master Plumbers" is becoming a spinless organisation and it's grass roots members are getting sick of the lack of direction of the organisation.

But just because you sell your business, doesn't mean you stop knowing all involved, even keep some of the influence?

It just shows why we need a clean impartial Board.

We haven't had a change of direction, unless you include for the worse, in over ten years.....how many times have they sacked them, 2 or 3 times?.....but then they use the same industry groups, against Law Commission advice, to repopulate the Board, so unsurprisingly the agenda continues.

I have had it said many times that the reason for this nepotism is that there is a limited amount of people capable to do the job.....this is an insult to the other 4 and a half million kiwis that share these islands....and don't forget the "capability" shown by the clowns doing it now. I got a goldfish and a bullmastiff that could do better. ;)

If he sold his business last year, would explain the "professional" Board member mentality and income top up. Small group of self servers selling all the rest of us down the river.....and I am a bit pissed off with it.

It looks like some of these organisations got together and had a mass debate over the direction of the industry and training and in the absence of that then look for the common denominators, they people on the boards and the organisations supporting them.

These people should piss off before they do any more damage.  Better to resign and walk away than to destroy more lives and get kicked out or held personally responsible in the courts or public arena.

who would be the appropriqate people for the board in terms of practitioners, as having master plumbers on their is an issue wouldnt that mean we couldnt have our own Federation members on their as the same conflict would be in place???? I know of some tradesmen that are not aligned to wither and i would hate to have them deciding our futures!!!!!

Maybe a balance of both parties would be the fairest option??????

It would be good to get a blance but from what we have been told Master Plumbers don't even want to meet with the Federation. I say they need to change or get left behind.

The Master Plumbers need to get back to grass roots and rediscover what started it all, not allow a small minority shaft their own members and the industry.

We need common sense and some ethics, which has been sadly lacking.
