Post by: robbo on March 02, 2013, 04:57:20 PM: hi guys, yes Badger i have had sparks jumping the gap when cutting an inlet pipe to a prv,(wasn`t useing a jump lead) called the power supplier who checked it out and came up with the answer of power leaking from a house three houses away was causing the problem, anyway continued on after useing jump lead, cheers
P.S. is it red lead for hot water pipe and black lead for cold, lol.

Post by: Badger on March 02, 2013, 07:05:28 PM: I know about the cross bonding with a lead mate,they drummed it in to us in the gas board(spark and gas isn't the best).... what I am wondering is do you have to get a sparky in to replace a pipe?

As for getting a sparky in to check the earthing, a electrical inspector told me if there is no earth stake then the earthing will be via the galv piping water utility, and a good idea to have the earthing checked.
Getting some one to pay is the usual problem. More cost for the client and quite frankly most don't give a rats arse about it. all they want is the cheapest they can get.

Even more scope for the ignorant DIY or cowboy its not the first time Ive replaced a hwc that has been home wired with a bit of old vacuum cleaner flex and chocolate block connectors, quite a bit of load for that wire.....
