I do have some questions....if you can use an alternative reg if it is relevent and proven (this is in the new to be reg too)....how about we been using NZ5261 for the last few years, in NZ, enforced by the Board..............was NZ 5261 defective???

So remind me why I have to now shell out a couple of hundred MORE bucks on a new book...which is very similar in content to the old NZ 5261???

Follow the money people .....you are being ripped off... remember these books don't write themselves, they don't print themselves, they don't enforce themselves, they are used a means and a tool to screw you over, and you pay for it all, the publishing, advertising, enforcement, legal fees everything.........

Tony Hammond, is one that writes and enforces them.......and receives a f****ing great wage too for it all.........

They are taking the piss out of all of us....wake up and smell the skim milk double shot latte( which I can't afford) ;)

Hi guys, this item from `in brief` leads me to the belief that we will be able to access the regs on line without having to purchase a new regs book, is this correct? cheers

Provision of standards
From 1 January 2013 registered trades people holding active licenses will be able to view the standards through their online profile.
When trades people log into their online profile they will see a standards logo on their welcome page. Simply click on this logo and you will be redirected to the standards website where you can view the standards.
This will mean that gasfitters will have access to the new joint standards after the older standards expire on 31 December 2012.
If you do not already have access to your profile, to set it up please email

I think this is the function that the board were talking about and will cost the Board, and ultimately us, $75 000. $75 000 for a cut and paste exercise.

What is wrong with the old one, is it defective?

Can we print it off??

its just a another nail in my coffin as to licencing.
come 31st march i am able and capable of working in the plumbing/gastrades without being a health hazard to the public, next day i am deemed to be a risk if i haven't paid for my brownie points, which all overrides many years in the industry and a apprenticeship and a mere sense of holding craftsman certificates.
many are in this situation and it pen and inks......

bureaucrats making a niche for themselves, couldn't and wouldn't crawl under a house through shit and cobwebs and when they got there wouldn't know what the f**** to do...makes me sick.

I have seen how they do THEIR jobs and they are shit at it.....BUT THEY LORD OVER US AND PONTIFICATE ABOUT STANDARDS.

WHO WATCHES OVER THEM FOR THEIR LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE AND STANDARDS?

Badger the answer to your question is the Minister of Construction Mr Williamson.  As to whether he does it well - that is a question up for debate, but in the end he has the power to remove them if they are not functioning to a standard set down in the Output Agreement.

robbo ! i am impressed!!! :)
i just had a look at the pgdb web site and hello rubie! FREE access to 5601 plus a number of other standards! what a bugger! i paid master plumbers 350 for this standard......and....Badger you CAN down load it!!! my god the world is turning!! these standards should have ALWAYS been free to tradesmen
rest in peace 5261  :'(....i loved that you where a little book that i could carry in the glove box, with good heavy bindings, you where a good mate...till you forgot to tell me that a infinity is classed as a air intake !!!! GRRR !!! and must be 3 meters from a regulator vent regardless of the fact that a regulator vent can be much closer to a window or a igintion source!!! GRRR !!!
now i have to lug my gold plated a4 sized 5601 that will fall apart just like the old full sized one from years ago!!!! GRRR !!!
but ....hay i would much rather be informed than to guess at anything i do...so .....its all good.
There is no way i can remember everthing we need to apply in our trade, but what we do need to know is where to find the information is all  ;)

hi guys/Bowtieboy, yes the web site reads that way but we still have to see it work!!! We all need to read these updates from the board and disect every sentence (as do the Federation with great skill) instead of blindly following the crowd like sheep, i would have thought M.Plumbers would have passed on this info as surely they would have known about it? cheers

Everyone that attended the consultation meetings should have been aware it was a possibility.  It is only the most common standards and not all as far as I know.  And it isn't free it is a cost per head that people have agreed to.  The PGDB will no say there is NO excuse for people not to be up to play with the new standard - and they would be right in this instance.

hi guys/Jax,
(The PGDB will now say there is NO excuse for people not to be up to play with the new standard - and they would be right in this instance)
...
Only if the said people were able to attend the consultations or were able to access the web site. Not every one is able too so i dont think the board would have a valid point if that is what they are saying. Of coarse in any case if all else fails a copy would have to be purchased, cheers

From what I've read you get no favours from this Board and with regard to the standards site I think people should be very careful downloading and printing the standards as they are copy write protected so to copy them is to breach the protection. I would say it is read only but I could be wrong. Anyone up to play on this?

I'm starting to think we should take up on one of the protest ideas and take the Board back to the dark ages and ask for everyting in hard copy. Take ourselves off their electronic mailing lists as most of what they send us is shit of no relevance anyway. Just more lies to cover their arse.

Happy new year guys. Surely, now it has been replaced , i would think 5261 can still be used as an alternative if 5601 continues to state this.I wonder if an audit could screw you for still using them. I wouldn't think it would take much to prove compliance! :D unless 5261 has been WRONG for all these years :o

well i bought 5601 via master plumbers and i think it stinks! they would known that pgdb where going to allow web access...from what i read on the standards site we are ALLOWED to down load a copy of 5601.
i have read 5601 and i still want pgdb to provide us with a orientation of it, there is a number of new items in it, that ALL need to be aware of, ie 3 kpa min pressure to lpg installations.
