Is there an offical Federation opinion on this topic?  For those that do new house work there are significant implications even without roofing.

Plumbers have done roofing and flashings for years - it is a core part of their apprenticeship requirements.  The problem seems to be that only some of it comes under the PGDB juridisction and because of "deeming" plumbers don't come under the jurisdiction of the LBP Board and so can't be disciplined by them.  Plumbers MUST retain their rights to be able to do this work WITHOUT having to pick up another licence and pay more fees.

The politicians and drafters of law have buggered this one up and we are again going to be paying the price, unless we put in submissions defending our rights to do this work.

looks like another core part of our trade going west , I havent done a roofing , ,or fire installation for a while now , these have all been claimed by other people as if they are the experts , was involved recently in removing a newly installed fire flue so builders could re pitch the roof for an alteration , I assumed I would be reinstalling the flue so fitted the blocking and installed the outer liner so the roofer could flash around it , when I returned the flue had been installed by the original installer . Aparrently the owner had rang them as they werent sure who was supposed to do it , the fire people said to them dont let the plumber touch it as they dont know what they are doing , I have installed dozens of fires , it is not rocket science , I also had a situation this year where a fire installer had installed a heat & glo gas fire for a client we were doing some work for , they asked the owner to get me to connect the gas  and commission the fire , I promptly told the owner to get the company who supplied the fire to commission and certify it , this took about 8 months for them to do , I explained to the client they have no insurance if there was a problem , the fire people eventually got a gasfitter to certify the install , I wonder how much of this is going on ? . spouting and guttering is another part of our trade that has been hijacked , I recently asked one of these companies to price a job for me , after checking what I could do the job for I did it myself a lot cheaper and also made good money , seems they have come in and undercut us out of this work , but I urge plumbers to look at getting back into fire installs and guttering as we always do a much better job and looks like we can be competitive now .
