Title: Washing machine waste
Post by: vix on July 24, 2012, 01:44:46 PM
We have recently brought a new washing machine - our old machine connected to our plumbing via a outlet on the u-bend (similar to what we have the kitchen with the dishwasher).  Worked perfectly with our old machine but seems that F&P have changed their pipes and we cannot get the waste pipe to seal on the outlet.  Have tried a hose clip (as was used previously) but just cannot get it to seal and hose clip damages pipe.  I notice that the dishwasher has a rubber flange type fitting over the pipe and outlet, tried out local places to get something similar but no luck. Any suggestions gratefully received as its painful to have a new machine I can't use!  Suspect the set up just might not work and needs some professional attention?

it rearly would be better to get a plumber in and run a seperate open trapped(u bend) for the washing machine to discharge into...i remember hearing somewhere that it is not good to hook up your washing machine to one of those (tit) connections that you speak of because it puts unnessary backpressure on the washing machine pump and shortens the pump life...as the washing machine pump is required to move a large volume of water in a short amount of time... this is from memory so dont quote me on it just give F&P customer line a quick ring to confirm the best hook up method and at least that will ensure any warrantie issues will be covered should any arrise....

...without posting a picture we will all be guessing at what the true issue is...

I've spoken to f&p customer care about this problem as well. They say "we don't recommend connecting the machine that way"

Anyhow I used some copper tube inside the the washing machine hose to stop it collapsing and bought a short radiator hose of the right diameter at repco and a couple of hose clips. Extended the hose with short piece of radiator hose. Job done.
