Title: Central Heating boiler room from hell!
Post by: Plumber on May 28, 2012, 02:23:04 PM
I just had to share this one.

Got called to this job a few days ago to find what I would in simple terms call criminal! A central heating system installed about 7 years ago and signed off by council. To the left there (not very clear) are 2 x 50KW gas boilers supplying heat to system that provides hot water and radiant heat to a 150 room complex. Here some brief system specifications:

All circulation pumps are leaking and the storage tank that you see is the first in line supposedly to pump into a second one to provide a large storage capacity, this doesn't work correctly due to the design of the pipework and is resulting in the boilers heating water that is never used. The expansion vessel drain is a 15mm dux pipe (I doubt that the expansion vessel has been sized correctly).

The first thing that hit me is the smell of gas when I opened the door. NO ventilation, good think im not a smoker, imagine walking into that thing with a cigi. The things you sometimes find  :o

I like how they have used fire line gib but no plastering or collars on the pipes....
It was proberbly a fly by night mechanical company that threw that togeather.

Hi new to here. Interesting pics, just a couple of things, boiler looks like a procon with that blue diagonal strip, if it is. this unit is room sealed? if so it shouldn't need full on ventilation, just ventilation for appliance cooling( which to be fair wouldn't get that hot)
other thing you mention is the plumbing crossed with heating, I doubt youd get the boiler to run if this was so, these units have a safety relief of 2.5 bar! and won't start, they are very temperamental german units jus like german cars!! , does this place have maintenance personell? maybe someone been tutuing with it?
Just a thought
