Trade & Home Shows
« on: December 11, 2013, 11:27:16 PM »
Hi guys,

So there are a few coming up in the new year and I am wondering if they are worth the time, money and effort required to exhibit at these things.

First one up is our regional home show

I am not geared up for it - as in banners, booth signage etc - nor do I have any brochures made up at present

I am figuring it is going to sting me approx $2000-$2500 to exhibit for a 2-day event of which I figure would have to sell close to $25000 of product/services to make it worth while

to gear up i figure you would blow an easy $1000-$1500 - cost of stall/booth is $1000 for 2-days which I thought was real steep - was expecting maybe half that!

Wondering if anyone has any experience with these sorts of gigs, pros/cons, expected sales/foot traffic

Most I talk to say they are a have and total waste of time - true/false?

cheers

It's my experience that people go to these shows for ideas and updates on new products. They then buy it from a mate of a mate who helped it fall off a truck, or alternatively go to friend who has a trade account. For what it costs to be there, you might find it more beneficial to do a letterbox drop (Good for renovations market) or invest more in advertising materials for give aways at show homes, for the tradies perhaps you could do a mail out or ads in trade journals eg Plumbing Journal, Carters Monthly news etc.  Depends where your target market is

Hi - yes from our experience good foot traffic but does not translate into sales.  Often the attendees are looking one two or three years out for what they are going to do.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet
