time a are a changing!!!
« on: May 26, 2014, 07:46:37 PM »
evening all.

Waterware are allowing plumbing companies to open accounts with them. And we are going too! this to us, means we cut out the middle man. mico, pw, zips etc and much better pricing/ margins  ;)
I look forward to other companies allowing plumbing/gas fitting companies to deal directly with them, and cut out the middle man.
This will allow us to compete directly with the building/ home depot shops that are taking our customers and materials away from us, including our margins.
If any suppliers out there read this please post your thoughts, I am really keen to hear from Marley, buteline, dux, rheem, rinnai, greens, iplex, hydroflow, 8)

The company I used to work for had an account direct with Waterware for the last couple of years and they'd even do better discount if you paid you invoices within 28 days.
It's the way to go if we can start to get the prices down so you can actually make some margin on your gear.

This is great news! Maybe hands have been forced - it might only take one or two to get the ball rolling - fingers crossed

Im only just starting out on my own but this already bothers me greatly. Clipping the ticket to do nothing except pass on the gear with a markup. Im finding it particuarly frustrating in the world of gas appliance servicing but its a general problem across the board. I hope more companies follow suit but who knows....what really angers me is people walking into places like bunnings, Mitre10, and the merch I use asking the counter staff how to do this or that or how do i do a pipe join etc. Of course they get all the required fittings off the shelf the customer would need to do the job, quite often they buy glue and threadtape as well etc. They pay and then bugger off for some good old kiwi diy..... so my question is, the next time I see mr singh for example leaving a mitre10 with a bosch hi flow, a trolley of plumbing parts and pushfit pipe what is the point of a license?? No one in the public cares what youve done in the past (quals) its about if you can get the job done confidently or not and of course the price! Never been asked for license except by inspectors in 13 years...

If the board are so concerned about cowboys what are the public DIY then???? Probably 80% of the diy I see is people doing their own stuff oblivious to the board and the 06 act. So my question is, what are they going to do about it??

Its like selling firearms and ammunition to anyone who wants it but then telling the people who buy, we can sell you the stuff but you have to have a license to use it.....like that would happen. They would use anyway.

So the board are officially a waste of time, the diy marketing of these stores gets bigger and bolder everyweek, every year. To save money as most people are on tight budgets diy is strongly encouraged. Where does this leave us? Fixing up more f$$k ups?   Donating to an organisation sorry i mean charity we cannot claim on? hmmm

This is only the start with the DIY shops, when I was back I the UK they were selling inbuilt living flame gas fires and they had a separate installation pack in the same area comprising of some 10mm copper tube, a few compression fittings and some PTFE tape. They would have a big sign showing installation but then say it had to be installed by a qualified person for legal reasons I suppose. I've always said if the powers that be were that concerned with peoples safety and only using qualified tradesman they could have more control on what's sold to the public, but lets be real here when we're talking big business and big dollars it will never happen, money talks!

Talking of mitre 10 and d.I.y, I see in todays long weekend mailer a little orange box. Said box is called 'hot water temperature tips' Yes, you know whats coming, turn your THERMOSTAT down to 55c. Legioneers anyone? email going to them, if unsatisfactory response then to the board. Not that they care.

Times are changing and I heard there is something afoot that some of the Federation members have been working on. Something that will have a big impact on the way we operate if it gets off the ground could help us all.

I've only heard bits a pieces but like what I hear.  I won't say anything at the moment about whats possibly happening but I'll be supporting them.  I hear they will be making an announcement very soon.

Wow!! you are thinking great. If this can be possible then lots of problem related to plumbing will get solve in just couple of seconds. NO,one will need any mediator also as they sometimes for their own profit cheat their customers.
