Insurance advice
« on: March 06, 2014, 07:50:50 AM »
Hi everyone, love the forum and finally joined.
I'm up for renewing my insurance and about to take on an employee.
My insurance was done through my bank when I formed my company and is up for renewal.
I'm looking for a public liability, income protection, van and tool package.
If anyone has any advice or recommendations I would be very thankful.
Usual jobs are plumbing, drainage and wood burner installations.
Cheers.

Hi Uncle

My advice is to go to an insurance broker and let them run around the market.  We have used a broker for 10 years - and although we have ended up staying with the same insurance company - the broker gets all the quotes and does the donkey work.  He is also the one I got to with any claims and he has the discussion with the insurance company.  We have public liability, vehicle insurance, directors liability and a health and safety liability, along with a legal edge package - but we also have a number of staff.

They will all try and sell you more than you need - but do listen to their advice.  Also if you ask any questions and are a bit unsure of the answers they are giving, tell them you want it in writing.  I find VERO really good for commercial insurance if that is any good to you.  They have loads of experience and have been fair to deal with.  The bank will be clipping the ticket if you go through them.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet
