Hello mate,
If you contact the PGDB and speak to them they should explain what you have to do.
Reckon you'll have to send over your qualifications for them to access to see whether they'll allow you to sit the exams.
Apparently you have to go to Wellington now to do your practical exam (expensive) then sit your theory paper (june or november)
Think you should be able to get a limited licence but that looks like it's going to change so not sure.
If you do come here you will be expected to work on quite a bit of LPG so might be a good idea to get some extra knowledge.
Main thing is you've got to expect to go back to studying and relearning as there are quite a few exams and there made to be pretty difficult, best to look on the PGDB site for past exams and work of them.
Best of luck and be prepared for a serious drop in wages!  ( still wouldn't go back to the u.k though).
Ade.

There's the New Zealand gas standards book which you would need approx $120.00, the exam for registration isn't too bad but you would have to re-learn alot of the technical calculations as it's done different here and you have to answer everything the kiwi way as it'll be marked wrong even if you know what your talking about.
All the exams are closed book so there is alot of information you have to try and absorb even though in reality you would reference certain things out in the field.
If you get registered you have to wait 2 years till you can sit your craftsman exams, one gas paper and one business paper and this is where it can get really difficult but you have to have these to be able to sign work off.
Best way is downloading the old papers and if you can get some answers thats a big help as if you don't use the correct words they will mark you wrong even though it can be obvious you've answered correctly. (been there)
I live and work in Tauranga, beautifull place but the wages are pretty awfull.
Best of luck

Auckland is the place to go if you want a better wage, heard various tales of what people are earning there, lot more than here but you never know till your there yourself.
Been here just over 3 years, started on $20 which i didn't think was that bad to start, now let's just say i still earn less than $25 hr and i'm a gasfitter, plumber, heating installer (rads and underfloor) solar and install pellet fires and boilers.
I'd still advise you to come here as apart from the money i can't really fault the place, and anyway anythings better than the u.k.
Cheers.

hi, as you can see being a gasfitter in this country has become a very expensive trade, what is it like in the u.k. i`ve been here too many years to know what goes on over there now.
When you do(if ever)become qualified,(reg or craft),you will need to attend ongoing training every year to be able to buy a licence, to be allowed to work. I have just recieved training info for 8 points(half of what you need)from contact energy. have a look at the time for training and the cost of 8 points then estimate how much the rest will cost in time and money, you will be supprised. This is not a RANT just info for anyone that is in gassfitting.I have given up the gas now because of the time/cost/stress that you need to stay in it,good luck to all who persevere, cheers.

hi,
we don't have to do training every year to be gas safe registered, but we do have to take a 4 day exam (acs) which requires 100% marks to pass, so we do have to stay up to date. with that and the gas safe regester (corgi) it costs us around £500 a year!
And our weathers still s**t!!!!!!

i would advise anybody thinking of moving to nz to do plumbing or gas to seriously think again as you will be poorly paid and mistreatedby some of the under quilified craftsman (ha ha)plumbers/fitters
