why only money making liceinces

One to Five Years

Have a think about these comments:

KATHERINE RICH (National)   From Hansard  16th November 2006
There are also some good changes to the licensing regime itself. In the original Energy Safety Review Bill it was suggested that plumbers would need to renew their licences every 2 years. Two years is a very short space of time, and the committee members felt it was important to extend that out to 5 years. We all understand the importance of competence; we all want to know when we hire a plumber, and he or she comes into our home, that that person is competent. But on the flip side of that, we do not want plumbers in the situation where they are continually having to relicense; there are compliance costs and frustration associated with a 2-year-licensing regime. I think that this change is a win.

PHIL HEATLEY (National—Whangarei)  From Hansard 2006
The legislation allows for different classes of licences and associated licensing standards. Originally in the bill the licences would last for up to 2 years but, of course, that provision has now been extended to 5 years, because it was madness to go through the licensing process every couple of years. The cost involved and the time involved would have been pretty tough for tradespeople, who are in short supply and who, on the whole, are doing a very, very good job, so we extended that to 5 years.

Section 49 of the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006: States:-
Duration of practising licence
(2) The date of expiry must be not later than 5 years after the date of the issue or renewal of the practising licence.

A 5 year licence in Queensland Australia cost less then $150.00 (for the five years), no so called Disciplinary Fee is charged, no points nonsense.
As an industry we are standing up for our rights.  Spread the word,  talk to fellow tradesmen,  please pass this information on.

we need to stop being sheep and stand up for our rights to plumb this should not be about money it should be about our work and what our customers think and NOT ABOUT A SELF IMPORTANT BOARD & MINISTER WITH NO UNDERSTANDING OF THE INDUSTRY AND WHAT WE DO

The latest Federation newsletter has called for opinions on soliciting donations for a legal fund to fight the PGDB around the points based upskilling system and the disciplinary levy.  If you have a read and you really want to fight, then send through your opinions and/or a donation.  An injunction could cost around $10k but would have a might big impact within the industry.

JD Those comments by the ministers regarding 5 year licensing  , I alluded to these in my submission to the board  and also to the Master Plumbers at a meeting in Upper Hutt , nearly everyone in the room agreed that a request should be made to extend the licence period beyond the current one year , and this would have been consistent with the recommendations from the ministers who sat on the select committe , as we all know now this was completly ignored . The question I ask is how can the board disregard recommendations . The ministers arrived at their reccommendations  from feedback from the public and practitioners among others  , I also did not see any reference to this in the Master Plumbers submission , Fiona Gavriel and the President indicated they would include this in their submission , I dont think many people were aware of the ministers reccommendation regarding this as when I mentioned it it appeared to be a complete surprise . These  sort of things make you think your wasting time making submissions , they seem to do what they like , At least on this forum you get feedback and its interesting to see different views that can  change ones thinking , Hopefully the board scrutinise the comments on here .

A 3 year license and a three year extensive CPD course to sit before re licensing seem the go for me....Ive been in this trade for 4 and a half years now and the codes have changed bugger all and the councils have changed bugger all of there inspection requirments and the technology has changed bugger all...The techonolgy does not change fast enough in this trade to warrant a yearly cpd scam!. So why do these incompentant fools at the board requirs a yearly license and a yearly points for mones scam...it baffles me why those at the top are complete idiots and not actualy in touch with the trade they over see.
Respect for my coustomers and getting the job right 100%
Respect for the idiots at the board 0%
