registration fee increase robbers
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:51:47 PM »
the pgdb is proposing to increase the cost or registering as a licenced or certifying plumber, gasfitter or drainlayer by 588%
this means the current cost of $85 dollars cold increase to $1400
it costs enough allready to get material to be able to study to pass your exams
then the cost of exams
and now when you pass a huge fee to be registered

open polytech course  $486
exam fee                   $300
regis fee                   $1400

total                        $2186

why is it so much cheaper for other trades .Do you think its because there industries are run more efficiently?
or because the pgdb are burglars.

i calculate if you study pass your exams and then upskill and pay you licence your first year as a certifying plumber will cost you
around $4500.00 this is cost only and doesn't include travel or loss of income while upskilling
when will it end :( :)

Just read on the pgdb's web site about the proposed increase in registration fees
If they didn't already take enough money off us for doing jack s##h they then come out with this nonsense.
And they wonder why there's not enough young guys coming into the industry.
All these increased costs just create more unlicened guys working for cash, and who can blame them.

hi guys, i have also added a note of my own, here it is:-
Your Govt had the opportunity to rid our trades of parasitical organizations that jump on ill-informed and implemented regulations and milk them for all that they are worth, but instead increased the already heavy burden heaped on underpaid tradesmen. Shame on you if we all finish up on the unemployment benefit. You may care more when you are in opposition.

Hi guys, here`s my reply to Ministers reply:-
Hi, thanks for the reply to my concerns of plum/gas/drain licensing costs and need of competence based licences. I have in the past offered the view that continuing professional development has always been operating in the form of freely distributed information by regulative councils also from engineers and manufacturers. Costs (money/time/family stress) for courses to obtain this information in occupations that are not highly paid, in my opinion will have a huge impact on the industry and will see the decline of interest in these trades. I believe that there is nothing that the P.G.D. Board do that is not already covered by other organizations/govt departments/councils that have been in place for many years, the board proposes to spend $3.7million to do what is already available and pass it on to tradesmen that cannot afford to carry the cost.

Hi me again, i seem to own this topic,  the minister notes in his reply that my letter is the second one that he has received in relation to this matter,Wow! come on guys don`t let the  board get everthing that they want by saying nothing, when you say nothing they will think that you agree with them, of course if you agree, say nothing.  As a matter of interest does anyone know if our ex C.E.O. P.Routham is still on the payroll?

::)In reply to Robbo Phil Routhan currently is in major litigation with the pgdboard so he is probably still on the payroll , I wonder if this is why the fees are to be increased to pay out Phil Routhan plus the legal costs , incidently I know someone who has recently had a with a meeting with an mp , he is looking at also taking the board to court over a investigation he requested and was not happy with the outcome , he tells me there may be some media article out soon , If I see it I will post here ,incidently has anyone read the financial reports for 2009 , if so you will see there is one person listed as recieving between 230 <>250 k per annum so  these guys dont come cheap they also pay aprox 150k per year rental and have also just carried out a major refit of their offices so come on guys just dig deeper and charge more so we can keep these people in the lifestyle they are accustomed to .

These people have lost sight of the real world and need to realise the more they demand from us the less respect they will get.

I have more to add but will post again sometime

hi guys this was the report on ONE news last night.
ONE News Item 29.5.10
The cost of a plumbing job is about to go up, with plumbers saying new, tighter industry rules will add massive costs to their businesses. It’s because of leaky buildings that construction rules are now lot stricter. But plumber Wal Gordon says the latest regulations have gone too far and they will cost customers."I'd say within the next six to 12 months, that'll be when the prices will increase," he says. The new rules require plumbers, gasfitters and drain layers to retrain for up to a week every year to keep their licences. Gordon has worked out what it will cost his eight staff to attend the required courses."For this business, we're in the vicinity of $33,000 a year," he says. He says customers should prepare to pay another $3 an hour for a plumber. But the organisation that has made the rules, the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drain layers Board says hourly rates will only increase by 18 cents."There may be some transference of costs to the consumer but the costs are very, very low and it may be those practitioners absorb them into their organisations," says Kern U'ren of the board. The board says to keep competent, trades people have to upskill. But many of the courses are run by the product manufacturers. So are they worthwhile? or just a product promotion?"It may be around a product but it is technical information to ensure that they are able to carry out the installation adequately and safely," says U'ren. Pieter Burghout of BRANZ says sometimes plumbers would have gone to that training regardless beforehand and not get any recognition for it."All they done now is attach some points to that training."Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson declined to be interviewed but he did release a statement to ONE News saying it's important that trades people remain competent throughout their careers and that he has no control over what they charge their customers. Nineteen months ago the government asked the Auditor-General to investigate whether plumbers are appropriately licensed. That report is due out soon, but already rules have been tightened.
