PGDB/MICO CPD Training Roadshow
« on: June 13, 2016, 04:09:57 PM »
hi guys, just done the roadshow and apart from getting to the venue so early I give it a thumbs up.
Here's my spin, cheers,
...
Hi guys, well did the PGDB/MICO CPD Training Roadshow this morning. For those that haven’t done it yet you don’t have to worry about being tested on our trades as it was a sit and listen to a very nice female presenter from Waikato who is also a certifying Plumber/Gasfitter.
So the course was about our tradesmen’s responsibilities for: Supervision/Health and Safety/Product selection/Disciplinary Processes. The whole thing was very informative and relevant to laws as they are now. Although 3.1/2 hours of sit and listen it is far better than irrelevant training courses by suppliers for points and certainly nowhere near the costs of attending them.
You have to get signed in then gather signatures from the various trade suppliers on a sheet that you get when you arrive. There is coffee and eats for anyone who wants it then the presentation from the board after which you have to be signed out.
In my opinion this is a massive step up by the board to appease the hated previous point gathering affair. The next step for information of this nature would be for the board to send out the information that they want us to know instead of a roadshow; after all it is/was only making practitioners aware of responsibilities and information sharing. Never the less I believe that all who attended would have been happy with the outcome.
I have no idea how many of the attendees would be Federation members but I must say that I believe that without the formation and push of the Federation, we would certainly not be at this point where tradespeople could retain their licences with such little fuss, so big thanks to the Federation, cheers

Hey Robbo ,
  Good one. Well done.
Thanks for the heads up on this road show as I will be attending it tomorrow and was wondering what I was in for.
I am presuming this will cover my licencing requirements for both Plumbing and Gas.
It is good to know that it is relevant and informative.
And as I will have to take the day off work  to attend i can justify a sleep in (mental health) and a few non business chores ;) Woo Hoo

Yep its a big thumbs up. I've attended and like Robbo found the content relevant and to the point.

Well done to all involved. Its good to see some common sense being applied.

Lets hope the change in attitudes continues.

Also found it to be informative - especially the Supervision requirements - I would say this is the biggest eye opener to industry right across NZ.  I think it took some people a bit to get their head around a staff member who had failed their exams and completed the National Certificate and became an exemption holder having to be supervised the same as a first year apprentice.  I would venture to say that the large per centage of tradespeople are flouting this - it has implications legally but even worse - any work that person does that is not done under the appropriate supervision requirements could put the home owner and business owner's insurance cover at risk.  This training also has added benefits in that it is a chance for cohorts of plumbers gasfitters and drainlayers to get together and have a catch up - something that is not done often enough.  Much better than collecting "points" and has some real information delivered by those not too far from the coal face.

Agree the Federation need a pat on the back - common sense has finally seen the sunlight!
