Gas certs. Are you covered?
« on: March 15, 2011, 09:24:24 PM »
I'm interested to know if there's many guy's out there who sign off work for there company and whether they have any liability cover or any other agreement with there employer.
I've come across a few people who are signinig work off for the company they work for and just assume that they are covered under that company's liability.
The way things seem to be going with the pgdb some people are in for a big shock if something happens on one of the jobs they've signed for.

He who signs the paper carries full responsibility.  There is NO insurance you can get to cover this.  The certifier MUST BE SATISFIED that the work is done in accordance with the Act and regulations - end of story, no excuses.  No gasfitter should just "sign" a certificate for anyone else.  It's just not worth it.  If there is any prosecution it will be against the INDIVIDUAL GASFITTER who signed the gas cert (and perhaps the licensed person who was supervised if applicable) - the company the gasfitter works is almost, but not quite, irrelevant.  It is the CERTIFIER not the COMPANY who signs the certificate.  Be very, very careful of what you sign if you are signing off someone else's work that works for you or with you, and my advice is NEVER to "sell your ticket" by agreeing to sign off someone elses work that you can't personally inspect.  The ramifications are immense.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

The ramifications are immense, I can personally testify to that.

What about if your certs are altered after signing, by someone at the firm your working at, with information added to them that is on the master but not the carbon copy, but bringing it up with Kern Uren gets a reply that I am just being vexatious, and he refuses to acknowledge it?? And I had tried to bring it up since 2003 and an explosion happens 2009?? Then he sends out letters to your customers that could have been in his own words "tailored better", i.e. reflect the truth!!

Its all about who you know, not what you know.
You can't choose who you are.....but you are the sum of your choices.......

I believe if someone alters a cert without your permission - then that would be called FRAUD.  Outside of the PGDB environment have you thought about reporting the fraudulent actions to the Police?

I intend to, but I thought all the people involved within the Board's inquires would/should have addressed this, especially if I was to get a fair go, which I do not believe I am getting.

I would agree with you - perhaps the Police would be more transparent in their dealings than the PGDB.  And it would be/should be free to do so and not cost you an arm and a leg.

I appreciate your advise and welcome it, thanks Jaxcat

I do have a question: Why isn't the PG&DB transparent?? which is my biggest problem with the whole situation, it is the very reason the whole thing is a farce and falls over in an honest and open forum, which is why we need it to be held in such a way.

I wish I can answer that question, and if I could I would then be able to move on and bring about world peace.  Not meaning to be flippant, but I ask myself the same question.  They should be - but until recently they have remained unchallenged by everyone and have dominated this industry without so much as a hand slap.  That is changing, but not fast enough to help you I'm afraid.  They are calling for people to sit on the PGDB, and I think you should have a go.  What have you got to lose, and if successful then you would certainly bring a new perspective to it all.

Why didn't the Board report it to the police?? :o, they can afford the lawyers and they have all the relevent information and should have the will to up hold their own system, and use every means to do so, if they have the will!! Not call someone vexatious for bringing it up ;).

Where do I apply to sit on the Board, because I haven't seen any adverts for this position, nor have I seen it advertised, unless it is advertised internally or between a select few. If you could point me in the right direction I will apply, no worries.
