Fellow Practitioner Issue 141 Dated 15 February 2013
« on: February 15, 2013, 05:43:47 AM »
The Board claim business as ususal. Does that mean more lies, deceit, poor decisions, more hiding of the truth and hiding of the facts and figures? If it’s business as usual we can expect there to be more activities to screw over the industry.

The Minister, Maurice Williamson's conflicts of interest are quite frankly nothing compared to the conflicts of interest we believe occur with the operation of the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board and we are reaching a toxic situation.

Imagine the uproar if repairing some failed pipework under a house we charged $200.00 for the first joint, $350.00 for a tee, $600.00 for the first 5 meters of pipe and $200.00 after that. What about a blocked drain, $200.00 for the first length of drain rod and $100.00 there after or $75 per meter for water blasting.

Hi Wal

As usual a superb newsletter.  It is like bashing your head against a brick wall dealing with the Board on issues such as the offences fee, the disciplinary levy, barriers to licensing, CPD - the legality of it, the interpretation of it, the morality of what they are doing.  If they would just stop, stop and think.  This whole thing started going pear shape when Mr Routhan took charge of the Board, it got worse in my opinion when he became CEO and they have built on the pile of sand ever since.  If only they had stopped and thought about it - and listened, listened to industry (you know those people Maurice refers to as the ute and dog owning cell phone users) - the ones with the common sense - none of this needed to get where it has got.

I suppose that is now water under the bridge becasue it has got to where it is and now we must deal in realities.  The way through this is to remain united as a group and to keep on uncovering silly mistakes and shining a light on them.  The Board have shown they don't want to work to resolve issues.  They have a bulldozing attitude that they are always right, even when they are not, even when those with more sense tell them they are not, even when it is published that they are not - they never acknowledge - and this is half the problem.

I used to think that Mr Routhan was one of the worst things that ever happened to the regulatory system of these industries, but now I think this current Board have surpassed even the mistakes made during his tenure.  And that is saying something.  It is a gold medal fail.

I just want to know who can we turn to now, now that they have been shown for what they are, to all and sundry by well put arguments, common sense and even law...... they have even been told to put it right by OAG. But they still carry on their merry way oblivious to it all, saying what needs to be said.......but doing sweet FA about it.

Kern Ur en said in front of witness's that the OAG report was "one mans opinion, and that the OAG was entitled to that opinion".........then carried on regardless, down the same bullshit, premeditated path............this totally sums up the attitude of the Board, they know best and everyone else is wrong.........100% conviction rate, etc etc...arrogance supreme.

What does it say about our country if a government agency (or charity or what ever they are) don't listen to industry, the Law Commission, Ombudsman or the OAG.......acting like they are above it all.

ARE THEY ABOVE IT ALL???
You can't choose who you are.....but you are the sum of your choices.......

They have until late March to go back to the Ombudsman with their proposal - after that we'll see.   But I agree - give it to the Federation - they will use it wisely on our behalf I am confident.

Hi guys,
Just thinking of the ‘disciplinary levy ‘how/why do they think 10,000 registered tradesmen in our trades are responsible for policing/paying for the prosecuting of dodgy work by the whole country of 4+million people. Surely that is like expecting all car mechanics to police and pay for all motoring infringements by the rest of the country.
cheers

How can i get to read the Fellow Practitioner? From what ive read about the board from you guys it really does seem that something needs to be done, BUT WHAT? im in whatever it is. im just starting out in the industry and have dreams and aspirations of working for myself to support my family, giving young ones an oppurtunity to get a trade etc etc. I agree the fees are crazy here. i have just returned from queensland and to renew your licence it 125 a year has your photo on it and your tickets. Also it takes the same amount of time to be trained as a doctor as it is to become a certified plumber????? does that seem crazy to anyone else besides me?

Hi mate,

You can get all the back copies on this forum on the home page, and if you get in touch with Wal he'll sign you up for the Federation if you want, costs nothing and gives us all a voice.

Hi guys, yes plumberintraining this s*it is crazy alright!

I cant get over how warped things are over here myself. The Board are a bunch of goons trying to build a pyramid that they remain at the top of.

Want to see them go down more than anything.

As an example my exams in 2006 cost $150.00 each,  $411.00 now and f*uck all has changed. If they f*ck up your exam paper they still are not accountable either.

They are the PGDB and are never wrong!
