Congratulations on 100 issues of the Fellow Practitioner - this is quite a feat!  We are now a lot more informed about the Board and what it does and doesn't do than we were prior to the newsletters.   There are an impressive number of complaints at various Government Departments and agencies - one can only wonder how the Board are dealing with this.  I expect to see the PGDF have it's own expenditure line in the Board's annual report this year.  It is astounding at how many rocks have been overturned and how many gruesome things there are operating under it.  I agree wholeheartedly with what you say regarding how the Board could have gained back the trust of industry.  For many many years we worked with Mr Wally Weaver has the registrar and work carried on, was audited, was pulled up or praised depending on what was needed.  The auditor was stern when he needed to be and prosecutions occurred as they had to - but none of it was done in a circus tent as it appears to be today.  The Board ran as a lean operation - there weren't half the staff - and yet the number of practitioners has not dramatically increased.  In my opinion the "Routhan" era which encompasses his time as a Board member and as CEO/Registrar have been some of the darkest days in our industries history - and what was needed was a heartfelt apology to industry generally from the Board of the time - and some new thinking.  The apology kind of came, with an admission they could have done things better.  It wasn't sorry, it wasn't genuine and it didn't clear the air to allow us to move forward.  Instead they repeat rhetoric about people not wanting to move on etc.   It is time for those that police and hold other to account to be held accountable.  They should be beyond reproach, squeaky clean and operate by the highest motives and in the best interests of the public they are charged to protect.  They talk the talk, they do not walk the walk.  I do not see a light yet at the end of the tunnel but fear that the only way to finally make this Board admit they are not working properly or doing the job they are charged with according to the Act will be via a court of law.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

Congratulations Wal and the Federation.

Food for thought and one of the most poignant comments I have heard for ages...why would you need heaps of lawyers..... if it wasn't to work around the law, one lawyer should be able to read, know and advise on it IF IT WAS FAIR AND ABOVE BOARD (pardon the pun).

I am in total agreement Jax...How can we take this to a court, you got my time and effort (not much funds as the Board seen to that). We got more than enough evidence and witnesses, surely it should just be a case of presenting it all...in a fair and open court (fingers crossed)
You can't choose who you are.....but you are the sum of your choices.......

Congrats and thanks to everyone who is involved in and with the federation....

I strongly agree with your comment about the number of lawyers needed on the books at the pgdb and the penny dropped with me when you pointed out the true obvious reason of them(pgdb) trying to work around the law instead of trying to work with the law and following the TRUE INTENT of that law the whole reason why that damb law was brought into existance was and is the INTENT with which the law was written and i believe that the federation has a damb good chance of winning a case in a court of law if only you could prove to the judge that the pgdb are working outside the intent of that law which can clearly be seen in there actions...

just looking back through the Practitioner Issues of past:

In 6th August 2010...Displine fees at....
 (PGDB news December 2007)

“Where does my $25.00 Disciplinary Levy go?”

Every practitioner is required to pay a disciplinary levy of $25.00 per licence as part of their annual licence fee.  The money collected from this levy pays for the Boards disciplinary functions which includes investigations and disciplinary hearings.

AT THE PRESENT TIME DISAPLINE FEE  A WHOPING $175 WTF how could any one justify a fee increase of such epic propotions in such a small time frame...

WELL im asking today where does my F***ing $175 go!!!!!

And this increase in only a 5 year time frame!...do these idiots think there the local council or something! were F***ing running INFLATION at 2-4% max there(pgdb) running inflation at something like 50%(i dont know actual figure cus not so good at math) who do these c***suckers think they are...one more good reason to start a fees revolt next licensing peroid...OVER THE TOP FEE INCREASES!!!...the max a fee should raise should be set at the rate of inflation!

Sorry about all the cussing but these facts just make me see red!

I mean in 2007 you could walk into  a shop and buy something for $25  and today 5 years later that same fricken item will cost around $25-$30 NOT $175 fricken dollars!

just browsing back through the previous issues has broght home to me the reason we must push on and we must see wrongs put right!

Thanks so much to you 3 trouble makers(lol) that started the ball rolling now we have 900 so called trouble makers  :P :D.

Hi Roberto.

I'm not sure about that. Try opening it as a PDF document or send me your email address and we can explore the options. Are you on the Federation mailing list as the Fellow Practitioner opens as part of the email.

Contact me at wal.gordon@xtra.co.nz and we'll nut something out

Regards

Wal

Hi Guys, PDF wont open the Microsoft Word file. You will need Word or any other product that is compatible with Word. Alternatively the newsletter can be converted to PDF before posting on the forum. That way anyone downloading the document can read without having to use Word or any other product. Wall you can click here and download this converter (from Word "doc" to PDF) http://www.pdfpro10.com/o/converter/?gclid=COO9_NeChLACFUdKpgodBRDQjg Having the Newsletter in PDF would be a great advantage for many that don't have Word and download it here on the site. We have had inquiries about this in the past. Cheers

Id like to ask why the board keep advertising for people to ask to see tradesmans licences to prove they are qualified when anyone off the street can walk in to mitre 10 or bunnings and buy enough plumbing gear to do a entire house from fittings to pipe to toilets,  :o :o :o :o

doesnt make sense!!! Id like to see plumbing pipe/fittings etc able to be purchased by plumbers/gasfitters only and not joe bloggs.

Madness!!!

It's called enforcement of the legitimate.

It's too difficult for the government enforcement agencies to target the people operating illegally so they target the honest law abiding tradespeople who make a mistake because they know they are an easy target and will pay their fines etc.

The illegal operators will go missing or declare themselves bankrupt and the government gets nothing.

Our Board has even said their jurisdiction is restricted to the public’s concerns about a particular practitioner's competency and this was in response to a practitioner complaining about another practitioner's work. So if a member of the public complain about a tradesperson they look at it - if we complain they don't.

It's what people in enforcement call "an easy kill" Go for the easy target.
