almost blew up a cylinder
« on: May 01, 2012, 07:27:02 PM »
about a year ago I was out in the country installing a wetback from a existing hwc to a newly installed wood fire, as I was installing a wetback the local council made sure a tempering valve was installed to the low pressure hot water cylinder, however I wasnt thinking and installed a nefa temp valve to the outlet of the hwc, and yet again i forgot about the bloody vent :o  :o

anyway I got a call the next day that there was a burst pipe under the floor, straight away I knew what I had done - so when i turned up i found the pressure pipe line feeding the cylinder (which changed to copper about 3m from the inlet of the cylinder) was all clipped up under the floor but it was in waves like it had got hot and sagged where there was no supports, the pressure pipe connection from the 20mm rx connection coming from the tank (on a stand) had blown off and so i re connected a new fitting, replaced the pressure pipe, and repositioned the temp valve below the floor where it was not obstructing the vent/outlet line if the hwc.

i dont know why the pipe burst, the water line from the outlet of the tank on the stand had no non-return valve or closed valve, maybe the weakest join just blew off, lucky i didnt kill any one, i felt soo bad that i payed for all the new fittings and I didnt charge the customer a cent, he was a good guy, really understanding, PHEW!!!

Hi Roberto, how many wet backs do you do before this one?
Please note that the advice I am giving is only my opinion and not necessarily a fact.  Please refer to our terms and conditions.
