Tradesman fined $2k for shoddy plumbing
NewstalkZB | 10:39am Fri 25 Jan 2013

A shoddy and dangerous plumbing job has cost an unauthorised Wellington tradesman nearly $2,000 in fines and compensation payments.

Paulo Va'alepu, of Silverstream, has been convicted of illegally carrying out sanitary plumbing at a house in Stokes Valley.

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board says the work he did was extensive and involved the replacement of a toilet, bath, vanity and shower.

But the shower had insufficient water pressure meaning anyone standing under it could get scalded.

As well as that the shower was leaking at the base, and the toilet pan wasn't connected properly, meaning that over time it would leak sewage onto the floor.

The home owner had to hire another plumber - this time a licenced one - to fix the work.

Luckily I did it all by the book, did it right, followed protocol, got my CPD points, paid my license fees, disciplinary levy (tax), missed whole days off work to go to a salesman pushing his product, answered the feed back ................AND IT ONLY COST ME DOUBLE THAT, EVERY FECKIN YEAR. Bargin!

AND THEN GOT SHAFTED ANYWAY BY A CORRUPT, INCOMPETANT PLUMBERS BOARD......

Thank you Master Plumbers too for ignoring your own rules as well, and shafting one of your own members......

Sterling work, a great legacy you are leaving for posterity.........

I really feel I got value for my money, cheers.
You can't choose who you are.....but you are the sum of your choices.......

Paulo Silao Va’alepu, of Silverstream, was not authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (‘the Board’) to carry out a bathroom alteration involving sanitary plumbing at Delany Drive, Stokes Valley in 2010-2011. The work was extensive and involved the replacement of a toilet, bath, vanity and shower including all associated pipework and tapware.

The evidence was that the available water pressure to the shower was insufficient which could have led to anyone using the shower being scalded. The shower was leaking at its base and the toilet pan was connected to the soil pipe in such a manner that over time it would leak sewage onto the floor. Beneath the house the soil pipe conveying sewage from the toilet was connected in a way that sewage could leak into the sub-floor of the house without being detected for some time, potentially leading to serious health risks to the occupants or result in serious damage to the house from rising damp or subsidence.

$500.00 fine bargin!!
