Hi,

We’ve just moved into our new home and after spending 5 months dealing with the building company and their plumber(s) to rectify an incorrectly installed hot water cylinder and wetback a long story which is currently under PGDB investigation due to numerous errors and poor workmanship and an unlicensed plumber.

Unfortunately all of this has created tension between us and our building company and now I’m basically being ignored as we are also trying to figure out how to resolve a water hammer issue where both  our laundry and kitchen mixer taps cause it when shut off rapidly after being run on the hot setting. We all try to remember to move them slowly to off to prevent but sometimes forget.

My question is, who is responsible and who should bear the cost of resolving this?

The building company we used sells many houses similar to ours and the taps fitted were specified by them, with that in mind and being brand new I struggle to accept that I should have to pay to resolve something that conceivable should have been allowed for in the design stage (if it’s inherent with this house design) or at least dealt with when tested at the end?

I’d really appreciate some perspective from those in the industry!
