Angled base tap adaptor?
« on: April 23, 2018, 09:44:04 AM »
Hi All,

I'm hoping this is some sort of industry secret - where on earth can i buy a simple angled adaptor for a kitchen sink mixer tap?

My sink has an angle on the flat part where the tap mounts, angled down towards the sink for draining.  Every tap i can find has a straight base, so if it was mounted on the sink it could be angled forward instead of 90 degrees to the sink.

It may be possible to get a tap with an angled base, but a) i have not yet found one and b) i want the freedom to choose from the "normal" flat base ones out there.

SO, surely somewhere there is an adaptor which would be like a short fat ring, which has about a 10-15degree angle on one end and 90deg on the other, so that any tap mounted on top of it would be perpendicular to the sink?

Anyone seen such a thing? If not, i will investigate getting one machined, but unless i have a really oddball sink someone else must have come across this...

Cheers
EB

Can you attach an image? I think I understand what you are after but would be good to know 100%

That is a very odd sink!  ???

What was there before? If you Google swivel brass socket you will all sorts of fittings. Alternatively you could come up in brass rod which can be bent and then cut to length or you countersink the finish level to allow you to mount the tap normally. Can you post a pic of the sink?

I can get a sink pic after work - it's nothing special though, just (I thought) a standard sink with separate waste disposal bowl.  It's just a steel unit, so there's no way to countersink or level off the surface unfortunately.   What's weird is the orginal tap which i have now looked at closely is a normal flat base - the design of it just means it doesn't look to be on much of an angle when in place.

I can't see that the sink looks like it's bent at the tap mount, it looks like it's meant to be angled.

Might end up cheaper to replace the sink!

If the part of the sink that the tap mounts to only has a slight angle on it, you will probably find that a standard sink mixer tap with a flat base wont look out of place when installed.

A really tall kitchen mixer tap may look slightly out of plumb when looked at side on though.

Probably more effort than its worth to replace the sink insert or get a custom machined angled spacer just to try and keep the tap body 100% plumb.

Ha, you have rumbled my plan - I’d like a tall mixer tap rather than standard i.e. more clearance under the tap.

Might have to keep thinking about it, with a standard short mixer in place in the meantime :-)

You could get a large steel washer and add some form of spacer on one side to get the angle you need. Drill the washer out so you can fit the tap thread through and you can either weld/glue spacers and grind down to what angle you need or you can get some of those plastic spacers from Bunnings which would work as well. Position the washer and silicon tidy around it. Once dry get the plumber to mount the tap :)

Keen on seeing the final result if possible.  8)
